Meet Ralphie…

Meet Ralphie.

He’s a Keeshond… A fuzz-wuzzy, 30 pound, lovable ball of fur that slightly resembles an Ewok.

Ralphie and I began my real estate career together… He was just an 8 week old puppy when we brought him home – and because of my family’s schedule, I was the only one available to walk him in the mornings and most of the afternoons.

So, we walked. And we looked at houses.

We walked through well-established communities and we walked through land that was in the process of being developed. We walked on brand new sidewalks and through muddy open space. We walked so much that we quickly discovered which dogs in the neighborhood were excited to see us, and which ones believed we were up to no good – regardless of how many treats we offered them.

That’s when I decided to be the “dog treat lady”…

When Ralphie and I walk in all these different neighborhoods, you’ll often see us with a backpack of dog treats in tow. And when we can, we give them away to random people we meet with dogs of their own.  🙂

It’s a simple thing, really – but you’d be surprised how many people don’t know what to say when I give them a free bag of dog treats! Nearly everyone is grateful, but some are quite surprised… And even express a bit of guilt that they don’t have any way to return the favor!

I simply tell them to enjoy their day – and that I’m a real estate agent who understands how an extra bag of dog treats in the cupboard can make life a little easier. No problem – it’s on me.

And honestly, seeing someone’s reaction to a free bag of dog treats is very gratifying to me. It’s almost as if people remember that all the other crazy junk in the world doesn’t matter… When a random stranger with a cute dog can offer you a bag of treats expecting nothing in return, a lot of negative stuff seems to fade away.

And that’s the whole point of being the dog treat lady…
